Hand Building Drop In

Need to get your hands dirty? Itching for some clay-play time? This drop in is perfect for those looking to experience some handbuilding techniques in a supervised 3 hour drop in. 5 weeks + pickup. Includes materials, glaze+firing, tools, and hands-on technical support. Some ceramic knowledge skills are a benefit, but not necessary.

Demos include pinching, coiling, slab work, using ceramic wires, coloured clays and basic glaze work.

Hand Building

Indigo

Indigo Dyeing

Take an in depth look at dying with indigo! Using commercially available pre-reduced indigo, learn how to mix your own vat of easy to use indigo dye. Students will learn how and why indigo works to create the best blue dye around, as well as get their hands into the vat. This class covers the basic of vats, indigo processes, simple binding and resists with the opportunity to dye a supplied piece of cotton fabric.

3 hours total, with all supplies and handouts provided.


Slip Transfers

Silkscreens & Slip Transfers

Covers the basics of making and using silkscreens for slip transfers in ceramics. This workshop will offer an overview of shooting a silkscreen, printing with underglaze and using slip transfers. Basic forms will be provided to practice with as well as the opportunity use your own artwork! Student art will be added to the class screen and your printed in class. Includes all materials, samples/suppliers + snacks. Will will also explore gellipate printing, bisque transfers and making your own own underglaze.

Every student will decorate a form, which will be fired and glazed, to be picked up at a later date. Designed to explore image transfers and expand on your basic ceramic skills, though no previous skills are needed.

Class is 3 hours, with lots of time to play around and print transfers.


Decals

Understanding Decals - 1 day workshop

This workshop will cover the basics of a variety of decal techniques from digital, vintage through metallic gold lustre. Discussions will include, overglaze, decal systems, metallics and many ways of producing your own artwork. Hands-on demos and handouts provided. Students will have the opportunity to decorate a fired ceramic piece, even a piece of your own! Artwork will be added to the class screen and your custom artwork printed beforehand for in-class use.

Students who don't have access to a kiln, may leave work to be fired and picked up at a later date.

Class is 3 hours, with lots of time to play around and print transfers.
